After a tiny break from writing due to my move to Minneapolis, I have time to sit down and tell you a story.
After days of packing, I left Cincinnati on Tuesday for Chicago. The plan was to get out of town by 9:00am, however, I was finally on my way at 11:30am. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Perfect driving weather.
I have maintained a storage unit in the suburbs of Chicago since I moved to Cincinnati from Chicago over a year ago. So the plan was to head out there before heading into downtown Chicago for the night. Turns out traffic through Indiana is ridiculous and we ended up getting to Chicagoland just in time for rush hour traffic. When you make an effort to avoid rush hour traffic, you always end up right in the middle of it (every time).
My friend Carolyn (along with her cat) needed a ride home to Chicago. This is no secret but I am not a cat person. I am the opposite of a cat person. I’m not entirely sure what came first… my hate of cats or my allergy to their dander. I am also not sure if my cat allergy shaped my opinion of these domesticated feline monsters, or if it is just their behavior/characteristics. Either way, I am a dog guy that dislikes cats (unless they are the hairless kind).
Anyway, Carolyn’s cat meowed from her cat cage the majority of the 8 hours it took to finally get to her apartment. Meowing and scratching at the door.. I was about to flip out. Luckily, I practiced some self control and didn’t leave the cat at a rest stop. By the way, I love animals and wouldn’t ever hurt them…Remember, I try not to hit butterflies with my car in the Summer.
We finally arrived at Carolyn’s apartment above a flower shop in Chicago. We went out for dinner and drinks at Fat Cat in Uptown…Drank a bunch, had some wings, and went to bed.
Wednesday, I got up with then sun, grabbed some coffee, and started the final leg of the move to Minneapolis. Once again, the weather was perfect. Traffic was only bad as I was leaving Chicagoland. The rest of the drive went very well… It was 20 degrees when I left Chicago. As I drove further North, I watched the temp drop on my rear view mirror. By the time I arrived in Minneapolis around sunset on New Year’s Eve, the temp was 5 degrees. Chilly willy!
After a year of planning, I can now call Minneapolis home. I couldn’t be happier with the decision and am incredibly excited about what Minneapolis has to offer me. If you’re in Minneapolis and want to grab drinks, Contact me. Now the “Making new friends” stage begins.
