Saturdays are not for graduation parties. Now, it’s getting to the point that when I hear “graduation party” spoken by anyone I get a similar feeling that I have when I hear someone say “baby shower” or “church on Sunday” and I cringe to myself (hopefully not visibly).
Maybe we need a word for a graduation party. A word that contains a single definition for these gatherings of someone’s family and family friends, along side old and new friends of the recent graduate. For example, we don’t call the celebration of two people vowing to love and cherish one another a promise love party, we call it a “wedding.” This word tells you exactly what to expect from this gathering. If for some reason you don’t know what expect from a wedding, you need to take a minute to watch this video.
I’m thinking “Graddy” would be a nice word. You’ll need Graddy invitations, Graddy save-the-date magnets, Graddy wrapping paper, Graddy napkins, Graddy banners…You can’t forget your Graddy theme colors, Graddy gifts, and Graddy thank you cards. Graddy planners to plan your Graddy…because you’ve been waiting your whole life for this day. Your Graddy has to perfect, just like the Graddy of your childhood dreams.
So if we had a word defining a graduatation party, one would be better able to understand what to expect, and could properly RSVP to the gathering. We all need to know what to expect when we check the YES box on that RSVP of yours.
